With new voting rights for British citizens living outside the UK expected later this year, now is the time to create our new Vision for the Future of LibDems Abroad (LDA)!
Formed four years ago and including the three local parties that represent LibDem members and supporters living outside the UK, LDA held its first joint conference last October. Delegates agreed to work for the ‘full incorporation of members abroad in the Federal Constitution’ and created a Steering Committee to take that forward.
Once we’ve heard from you, a working group will use those ideas to create detailed proposals for how that could work inside a new constitutional structure. This will define the rights and responsibilities in our relationships with each other, individually and collectively within the Liberal Democratic family and beyond.
All workable options will be considered and there will be opportunities for you to offer your help to the working group putting these proposals together after the initial consultation has taken place.
Finally, all members of LibDems Abroad will get the chance to debate and vote on the proposals we send forward to the Party’s ruling body (the Federal Board) later in the year.
